Watch your vans

by Natasha Arora
July 2005

Ku-ring-gai Police are warning residents to take extra precautions with the security of their work vehicles such as utilities, vans and four-wheel-drives when parking them overnight.

Ku-ring-gai Anti-Theft Team's Senior Constable Pearson says that the work vehicles are being targeted because of the items locked inside them, such as expensive power tools and welders.

The suburbs being attacked include Hornsby and Berowra where Pearson says that in a month an excess of 10 vehicles have been targeted by offenders. Two work vehicles have been recovered from the Liverpool area but police are unable to reveal the exact whereabouts.

"It looks like the vehicles are being burnt out and dumped. The two we recovered from Berowra were found in Liverpool. I guess people are leaving valuable and heavy tools in their cars for convenience. We do not have any good leads and we need residents to help us," says Pearson.

The suspects are males in their 20's of Caucasian background and one female suspect with blonde hair also Caucasian and in her 20's.

Police are asking anyone with information to please forward it to Senior Constable Pearson on 9418 5305.
